It was a shoppers paradise with authentic goods from Canada, United Kingdom, France, Morocco, America, Japan Italy, Germany, China, Norway and Mexico. Only next time we'll have to drive to Disney. Some of the selections were simply too large to lug back on the plane.

Pride Update ...Sponsorships!

Yes Pride is open for sponsorships. They need lots of them for this year's 20th Anniversary Blowout. There are several levels in which you can sponsor the festival and several levels are open till July 15th.

Only two categories have been locked down as of the original June 15th cutoff date per conversation with Pride Co-Chairs Sonny Cleveland & Mike Barrington. "Those categories are Radio Media which was given to B-97.1 FM and Gay Local Print & Internet Media which is Ambush Magazine & AMBUSHonLINE."

"Now this does not say that any other radio stations, magazines or on-line services cannot report on or give support to the PrideFest '99 celebration. It just means that they requested exclusive rights on their proposal to put their logo on all festival printed material based upon their sponsorship packages."

Please make all sponsorship inquiries to the Co-Chairs Sonny Cleveland (504.524.8016 home, 1.888.786.2056 bpr, 504.522.8047 work) or Mike Barrington (504.433.2563) for consideration. But do it quickly, the new cutoff date is July 15th, due to printing constraints.

There will be a Pride program so if you are interested in placing an ad, donating something for the silent auction, getting a vendor/food booth (Linda Hubble: 504.941.0521 bpr), volunteering (Crystal Little: 504.949.9555) or participating in the parade (Eddie Fos: 504.522.0045) please contact the Co-Chairs or the Prideline at 504.949.9555.

gaymardigras.com Wins Freedom Award

E-Mail From: Pete Shaw
Subject: Freedom Award
Hi,
Firstly let me introduce myself, I am Pete Shaw, webmaster of Freedom UK. I don't know whether you've come across our site already, but it's been serving the gay community over here in Europe for 5 years now. Originally we started Freedom in order to provide free web space to gay & lesbian organizations that needed a home on the web - but as the Internet has grown around us, that has become less of an issue and we developed into a general 'grab-bag' of gay & lesbian related info & resources.

In the early days of Freedom UK we realized there were many GLBT websites out there that deserved recognition for the service they provided to the community. Yes, there were award systems around, but none (that we could find) that gave praise particularly to our community. Given the ability of the Internet to provide support and resources to remote users - especially in areas were tolerance levels were low - we thought this needed to be rectified, and the Freedom Award was conceived to address this gap.

Although since those days many other award systems have appear for GLBT sites, we have continued with the Freedom Award, although nowadays we are far more critical of those sites that deserve them. Each month we provide a focus for one site which shines through as the best of the best on the gay web. The criteria we use to select that site is based more on content than design. Yes, navigation is important, but our original aim of bestowing praise on those sites that actually provide something of value to the community still holds true.

I am delighted to announce that we have selected Gay Mardi Gras New Orleans as a winner of the Freedom Award. More details about the Freedom Award can be found on our site at www.freedomuk.com/freedomawards.htm.

Wishing you all the best for the future,
--Pete Shaw, www.freedomuk.com
