July 4th Sizzles in the Crescent City

The action packed holiday had revelers pouring into the Crescent City for a sizzling July 4th weekend. Multitudes descended on Cabrini Park for Laz Fest raising some $60,000 for Project Lazarus, an AIDS hospice in the City. The folks from Wood Enterprises had great success at the food booth they sponsored with support from Arrow-Sysco, Jeff Levy from Thompson Packers and Bob's Bar Supply. July 4th afternoon we ran into bar baron Andy Boudreaux at his popular MRB. Having a lot of stops to make, we had only intended to stay for a couple of drinks. Andy was on a roll with Karl "Angel" Thomas tantalizing party patrons sunbathing on the patio and even hosing down the plants with a real big hose! Some 7 rounds later we headed on out.

Next up was the Golden Lantern. Alex and Terry played host to a load of Independence Day revelers, treating them to an extensive "All American Buffet" complete with ice cold watermelon. The lovely and talented Jay Verona was holding court by the doors, keeping Lucille in line, making sure she did not miss a thing!

Then it was off to the Mint for the Buzzy's Boys and Girls benefit which raised over $2,000 for the popular New Orleans charity. Celebrity guest bartenders SDGM XXIV Wayne of Lafitte's and Another Corner's own Mike, were slinging cocktails behind the bar. Miller "girl" Lisa Ducre was playing hostess making sure we all spent plenty dollars on the raffle. A grand prize trip for two on Northwest Airlines, as well as loads of bar tabs, gift certificates and merchandise were awarded.

Oz revelers turned out to see diva Judy Cheeks bring down the house at their Red, White & Blue Nights Freedom Weekend blowout. The big ole beefy Men of Manwatch tortured the crowd with their exotic hot and sexy dance skills.

The Stars, Stripes & Studs Independence Weekend rocked out at the Parade as famous South Beach DJ Rick Mitchell took control Saturday Night. The Patriotic Go-Go Boys tantalized party revelers both in the Parade and downstairs at the Bourbon Pub.

Popular porn great Karl "Angel" Thomas brought down the house once again at Andy Boudreaux's MRB. Angel is the regular headliner at most big holiday weekends along with the MRB Dancers & Goddess. If you've seen his show, you know why he continues to pack out this club each year.

And the back room at Rawhide 2010 was transformed into a professional ring presenting "Rasslin' at the Rawhide." The Crescent City Club put on a wrestling exhibition which kept the packed house glued to their seats.

QSR launched the whole weekend July 3rd presenting the premier of stilettos and lipstick with Stephanie and Valena. Yes, the Quarter Scene Restaurant is featuring servers in drag every Thursday 6pm-midnight. Stephanie and Valena are attracting scores of locals seeing how these girls will "come out" each week.

Simone Richard Crowned Queen

A three day bar hopping extravaganza was the setting for the 1st Queen of Rampart Pageant. The festivities began Fri., July 11 with Presentation and Creative Fashion at Mother Bob's. Presentation set the tone for the pageant, but Creative Fashion brought the audience to their feet. From Felicia Renee Cole's portrayal of "maneater" to Simone Richard's "stroll down 5th Avenue," to Tammy Whynot's hilarious "day at the beach" complete with a six pack of beer and dirty mags all attached to her chapeaux, to Brenda LeChat's "night out on the town," and TT Thompson as the glamourous and sexy Rio de Janiero; the competition got into full swing.

July 12 brought the crowd to Footloose for talent competition. It was an exciting evening featuring the best of the best on the Rampart Street Strip. These show girls pulled out all the stops demonstrating to the judges and audience why they were the cream of the crop in this pageant. Tammy Whynot really brought this audience to their feet with her show stopping rendition of dozens of songs, all big-time favorites.

July 13th was the final night of competition. It consisted of another talent segment [not judged], Evening Gown and On-Stage Question. The girls were indeed all worthy of the crown, however, the night belonged to beautifully natural Simone Richard as winner with TT Thompson coming in real close as 1st runner-up. Brenda LeChat was 2nd runner-up, Tammy Whynot 3rd runner-up with Felicia Renee Cole 4th runnerup rounding out the finalist.

Kudos to the pageant committee [Barry Marino, Danae Daniels, Tiffany Rae Button and Connie Marcelle] who put on one of the most professionally done pageants we've ever attended.

Barry Marino and Danae Daniels were excellent emcees featuring their talents along with those of Connie Marcelle, Pussy Galore and Tiffany Rae Button.

Congrats Mother Bob's and Footloose demonstrating the camaraderie and unity of the Rampart Street Strip. Their slogan continues... "It's neat to meet on Rampart Street."
