The A List

allons acadiana
Volume 16/Issue 17

by James Scott
LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA

Unfortunately, we must start this article off on a not so great note. In case you have not noticed, there are no pictures of the Acadiana area published in this issue. During a recent night out, the camera with incredible pictures included got into someone else's ownership. I am not accusing, only saying that if you are in possession of something that does not belong to you, it is stealing! Keep in mind that there were not only pictures, which should let you know to whom the camera belongs, but also business cards with several phone numbers where the REAL owner can be reached. Okay, bitterness aside, let's get down to business.

Remember to show your support for your favorite businesses in your choices for nominations in the GAA (Gay Appreciation Awards). The top five nominees will be chosen in each category and voted on at PrideFest 98 in New Orleans on Sept. 26 and 27. Please fill out your ballot and return it to Ambush or register your selections online at archive.ambushmag.com/gaa/new_submit.asp. There are several businesses and individuals from our area deserving of at least a nomination.

The Miss Gay Louisiana America Pageant is quickly approaching. The upcoming event is scheduled to be held Sept. 11 - 14 at Unique Bar and Lounge, located at 1919 N. MacArthur in Alexandria. If you should want to contact them, call 318.338.0555. This competition is an official preliminary to Miss Gay America and promises to be filled with some of the best talent Louisiana has to offer. Top billing talents such as Sylvia Scarlett, Miss Gay Louisiana 1998, and Maya Montana, Miss Gay America 1998 will be representing their crowns. Special guest, Debbie Delhomme, Miss Louisiana USA 1998, is scheduled to participate in the pageant as a celebrity judge. Our area will be greatly represented, so make your plans to go out and support those performers who are proudly representing us. Check out this week's issue of Ambush to get your schedule of events and show times.

I would like to extend my most sincere wishes to each of the contestants for a successful show and good luck to each one of you. You all deserve to be the next Miss Gay Louisiana. Thank you for representing our area so proudly. We should all be more aware of the time and energy that goes into such great performances.

In celebration of those competitors in our area who have earned the opportunity to compete for Miss Gay Louisiana, The Sound Factory will be hosting a "Special Guest Show" on Sat., Aug. 22. Several of our area's competitors who will be representing us in Alexandria will be showcasing why they deserve to be crowned the next Miss Gay Louisiana. Some of the talented entertainers scheduled to appear are Asya Alexander, Shayla Gray, Chelsea Paige and Stephanie Stevens. Please make plans to attend this show, which guarantees to be filled with grand talent and electrifying performances. The show is scheduled to begin at 11:30pm.

I've noticed that The Sound Factory has been having great crowds on almost any night of the week. Maybe it's the nightly specials, the upbeat atmosphere or the great bartenders who bring a smile to our faces night after night. A very sincere thanks to John Gilland for such an incredible club and constant entertainment!!

As the summer heats up so does the patio at Jules. This relaxing setting is ideal for those who need to take a small break from the on-going party or just want to be able to sit down and have a peaceful conversation. During a recent night out (the night of the camera incident), Jules entertained its patrons with the return of the male dancers from Houston. Dan, the blond hunk, was on hand to display the stuff that dreams are made of. This charming man is not only a joy to watch perform but has such a sweet side to him. No, I am not going to explain that comment! These guys are also planning several upcoming attractions, so keep them on your list of party spots and watch Ambush for future events.

MoJo Monkey's will be hosting a live performance by the Robyn E Band on Sat., Aug. 22. Anyone who has seen this attraction will tell you that it is worth it on your list of functions to attend. Remember to stop by MoJo's and visit with Dawn and Stevie. These girls are wonderful company.

Special Mentions: To the employees of Jules, remind me to leave before you lock the door...Shelton, thanks for one hell of a party. What is that perpetual smile on your face about?...Mark, keep smiling. Congratulations on the new job...Jamie, you are not supposed to fight with people when you are an out-of-town visitor. We'll work on that...Dan, thanks for posing. It's a good thing I have a photographic memory...Alex, I'm sure the photos would have come out beautiful. We'll try again next time.
