Lambda Group's 4th Annual Fallfest
The Lambda Group, Inc., a not-
for-profit corporation, which
seeks to promote the well-being of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered community in Baton Rouge and surrounding and rural areas, is pleased to present the 4th Annual Fallfest, Sun., Oct. 26, noon til 8pm at the West Baton Rouge Community Center, Port Allen, LA.
There's no other G/L/B/T event in Louisiana quite like Lambda's Fallfest. This year's lineup is the best yet, with eight solid hours of live music featuring Kevin Latiolais from Lafayette, Sweet Revenge from New Orleans, Isaac's Guns with Whitney Ann McCray, Wendy McDowell of Tin Angel from Gainesville, FL and Sonia Rutstein of disappear fear. The Mistresses of Ceremonies will be Tiffany Alexander and Lady Rhonda. Besides the music there will be door prizes, a silent auction, a trash and treasure sale, food and beer and the ever popular Lambda Volleyball Tournament.

Holds Open Auditions
The New Orleans Ballet En-
semble, under the auspices of
the New Orleans Ballet Association, will hold open auditions for its 1997-98 season Thurs., Sept. 25, 6pm-7:30pm, at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts, 801. N. Rampart St. Artistic director Allison Gonzalez will be auditioning both male and female dancers for paid positions, as well as apprentices and trainees. Dancers must have an advanced level of training in ballet, modern and jazz; female dancers must dance on pointe. Paid dancers are required to be available during the day for in-school residency work and attend the provided classes, rehearsals, and performances Jan. through April, 1998. There are no fees for selected dancers.
In addition to an extensive schedule of educational programs including lecture/demonstrations in the schools, the upcoming season will include productions of Peter and the Wolf, Billy The Kid, and A Streetcar Named Desire, all choreographed by Ms. Gonzalez. The Sorcerer's Apprentice, choreographed by guest Martha Connerton of Charlotte, NC will also be performed by the Ensemble.
NOMA Loans 24 Russian Icons To The Biedenharn Foundation, Monroe
The New Orleans Museum of
Art recently loaned twenty-
four Russian icons from its permanent collection to the Biedenharn Foundation in Monroe, LA. The Russian Icons: Their Art and History, dating from the late 17th through the early 20th centuries, will be seen by the public for the first time in Monroe, LA from Oct. 19 to Dec. 31, l997. Thirty-six of the seventy-two icons that comprise this exhibition are on loan from Daniel Bibb, Art Conservator and Collector of Atlanta, GA. Daniel Bibb is also a lender to the New Orleans Museum of Art, with objects by Peter-Carl Faberge.
The loan of these icons is part of NOMA's long-standing commitment of sharing cultural treasures with sister museums in the deep south.
Howl Orleans 97
French Quarter North and South
Art Guild presents their third
annual two-day Cultural Arts event, Howl Orleans 97 featuring Louisiana Oysters.
The theme this year is Howlin' In The Streets, a play on New Orleans' colorful street names. Historic Louis Armstrong Park is the setting for Howl 97 on Oct. 25 & 26. Festival hours are 11am to 7pm.
Howl Orleans will showcase two days of food, music, arts, crafts, maskmakers, face painters and costumers emphasizing New Orleans' cultural diversity. New this year, a juried art show and food vendors featuring Louisiana oysters in an array of costumes, some fried, battered, "jambalayed," and "etouffed" all supplied by P.J. Oysters.
Kid Mountain returns with new and different activities for the young and young at heart. Recycling will be the focus this year with the help of Mid-City Green. McDonough 15 volunteers will be on hand as always to assist with Kid Mountain.
Howlin' In The Streets is free and open to the public, with activities for the whole family. Maskers and costumers are encouraged to dress with the theme in mind. Bring your family, friends, and your appetite and join in the fun.

Algiers Point House Tour Set For
Sun., Oct. 5
Algiers Point Association's
24th annual house tour will
showcase 8 historic home as part of a celebration of art and architecture in the National Historic District neighborhood. The Sunday afternoon on Algiers Point also features an art festival and sale sponsored by Art in Algiers, or ARTinA, a consortium of Algiers-based artists and craftspeople. The day will be capped by Octoberfest-ivities at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Olivier St., one of the historic properties on this year's tour.
Among the eight homes open for the 1997 tour is a 19th century ship captain's house, an American townhouse across from the neighborhood's original 1907 Carnagie Library and a freshly redone shotgun on Lavergne St. Tickets for this year's tour are $10 and can be purchased beginning at 11:30am at the Algiers Courthouse near the ferry landing on Morgan St. the day of the event, Sun., Oct 5, 1997.
The ARTinA art festival is a free event taking place in McDonough Park, at Verret and Alix Sts. In addition to exhibition and sale of works by invited artists and craftspeople, there will also be artist demonstrations and a display of student work. The ARTinA festival begins at 11am and will run through the afternoon.
Completing the celebration, Trinity Lutheran Church on Olivier St. will present all the oompah fun of its traditional Octoberfest-ivities. The church itself, c. 1870s, will also be open as part of the neighborhood tour.
"Every year, the tour and associated events seem to grow. We think of this day as a celebration, not only of our neighborhood but also of the continuity of community that makes New Orleans such a unique and rewarding place to live," says Perry Bird, president of the Algiers point Association and co-chair of this year's tour.
