oh, sigh, Cockette is happy you got the pics posted, but alas, there are none of her fine derriere anywhere to be seen. Pas de problem, I have some waiting at home when I get back that two of my (Unbelievably gorgeous) guests took while we awaited the beginning of the parade chez the Lantern. 2 fuzzy navels (not my guests', more's the pity) got me off to a festive start and I enjoyed the day, my first SDD in many years. Next year I'll remember to look for the camera and not just spend the day dusting the FEELTHY French Quarter...a faux woman's work is never done...sigh.

Subject: Thanks for the Great time
I wanted to let you all know that My experience at Southern Decadence was a very positive and fun time. It was also my first time to New Orleans and will certainly not be my last. I read the Article by Toni Pizanie about thanking Councilman Carter and even though I am not a resident of New Orleans, I hope that My voice can be added to others' when you let him know how much he contributed to my experience in New Orleans. Because my time in the quarter was so much fun, I have asked and recommended that friends come with me next year to enjoy the festivities. They have all expressed interest in going.

The second part of the article spoke about Todd. My Heart goes out to him and my hope is that he does find his way in the world. I am deeply shocked by the treatment shown to him through members of the gay community save the Community Center. While I am not surprised by the negative treatment that the "world" can give, I am heartened by the effort both on his part and by the community centers part to help make Todd's world a better place. I only wish that I lived closer and were able to contribute more to his life.

Once again, Thank you for a wonderful time and I look forward to coming back next year!

Rip, Print this great success story....Eric [Crabtree, Austin Ambush rep]
Hi Eric,
We just got a call from Richard Dykes, owner of George's in Baton Rouge. After reading and seeing so much about Austin in Ambush, he and his entourage had to visit your city. They went this past weekend and had a blast. They went to every bar and saw Ambush everywhere. He said they were treated fabu at all the bars, but the highlight of their trip was Splash Video Bar.
In our line of work, we very seldom here a salute to our endeavors. You deserve it for a great job!

Subject: '98 my first year
WHAT A GREAT TIME!! This was my first Southern Decadence...and I had a blast. I grew up in the south and "not that I am or ever have been" sheltered nor NOT involved in gay community affairs or functions but I never new about this until after last years SD. Some friends of mine from Arkansas told myself and my partner about the event and we decided we simply must make it for '98. WE DID and had the most fabulous time. Great job this year as well as in others. I'm sure we will return next year and hopefully with a few new bodies with us, who must have this experience. We now live in Omaha, Nebraska and have for 3 years and we have made some very good friends that we must share this great "secret" with. Words and pictures can only say so much...plain and simple...you must have the first hand experience.

Thanks to all of you involved in making this a great and memorable event "and" experience.

Subject: Phoenix Raid
Dear Friends, While I have been met with great opposition on a personal level on this subject, I still feel compelled to express my own personal opinion about the raid of the Phoenix. According to the Times Picayune article by Petula Dvorak, which appeared in the New Orleans/Metro section on Wed., Sept. 9th, police were "acting on a citizen's complaint that described unsafe sex," and consequently, police vice squad initiated a surveillance team at the bar. While I am a firm believer in the importance of safe sex, do we now have a "safe sex police'? Now while I will admit that what goes on within certain establishments locally is not necessarily morally or socially acceptable to many, or legal for that matter, I do still feel that this was a form of harassment by the NOPD, in an effort to ridicule the gay community publicly. The fact that this raid came two days prior to Southern Decadence is in itself questionable. Another disturbing fact is that Lt. Marlon Defillo released the names and addresses of the 14 men arrested. This, to me, is absurd, and sounds like something out of the 1970's. While I will not get into the legalities, I would just like to point out that in this great State of Louisiana, to be a practicing homosexual is in itself a crime, no matter where the act is performed. Think about it.
Thank you for the opportunity to express myself publicly,
--Joe D.
