Lesbian/Gay Activists Honored;
HRC Town Meeting

L ong time Lesbian activist, Marilyn McConnell, was honored by the Mayor at his re-election announcement gala, by being asked to address the attendees. Ms McConnell spoke on the Mayor's role in assisting the Les/Gay and HIV communities and promised continued support by the L/G/B/T.

Christopher Daigle, Director of L/G/B/T Life at Tulane University was honored by Out Magazine by being named one of the "100 Most Outstanding and Influential Queers in America." Chris received his award at a reception in New York City just hours after his hard fought battle with Tulane University Board members on domestic partner benefits. He is an advocate for human rights and will continue to work towards that goal until those rights are won.

Donna Red Wing, HRC National Field Director, and Tony Esoldo, Field Organizer, have been in the Big Easy speaking with, and training, grass- roots political activists.

A town meeting at the Metropolitan Community Church allowed more than 25 L/G/B/T activists to voice opinions and suggestions on ways to educate and enlist support for the community. The battle to pass ENDA and include Transgender persons was the hot topic of the evening. "We must become involved in a positive way," Red Wing told the group , "or we will always be at the mercy of the Christian Coalition - who are just waiting for us to kill ourselves."
